Hi! Welcome to my teaching blog. If you haven't already checked out my "About Me" section, I wanted to introduce myself in more detail. And yes, I know you are wondering, I did self draft and sew everything I am wearing in the pictures shown. I live, eat, breathe and sleep Fashion Design!
I started my teaching career in March 2018. After moving home from Australia, my husband and I decided to change careers and begin studying at National University. Initially, I was brought in as a guest speaker to my current Mentor Teacher's class. At the end of the day I ask her, "How do I become you?" and the rest is history. I began substitute teaching in April of 2018 for several districts and will be student teaching beginning in September 2019. My heart's biggest desire is to keep Home Economics programs alive and well. Unfortunately these classes are getting cut across the US, because there are no candidate teachers to replace retiring teachers. It is my personal mission to keep at least one program alive so that students have the opportunity to explore creative classes like Fashion Design and Interior Design. I witnessed a fashion program being cut this year at another local high school and it was tragic. No one qualified applied. The students were devastated. I hate that this is happening frequently in my content area. As evidenced, I am a passionate person and will be a passionate teacher. Based on personality tests, I am an ENFJ. This means I value the big picture while also taking care of the little details. I can successful manage multiple projects and task at the same time. This is probably why I was a successful collegiate athlete in terms of time management. I value people and can quickly understand their needs. This bodes well in my content area because these are the skills the State of California values for CTE education in Fashion Design and Interior Design. Students need to be prepared to be career ready. I know I will be able to help them attain the necessary skills to be successful in the Fashion and Interior Design Industries.
